How to use a Subway ticket in Seoul & Incheon, Korea

-How to buy a ticket & How to refund deposit

 It's very convenient to use the subway in Korea and almost every procedure is automated with the machines. You can buy a ticket from ticket machines , which support English, Japanese and Chinese.

 Caution 

-You can only use plastic card tickets at Seoul & Incheon subway system. (no cash!)
-You should refund your deposit for your tickets after you get out of the subway Platform.
-Ticket machines, Deposit refund devices, and Bill exchangers are separated, so when you use the machine, you should distinguish the machines.

 How to buy the tickets 

1. Prepare cash (Some machines accept only 1000 won. In that case, you need to use the bill exchanger.)

2. How to use the ticket machine

1) Select your language

-It supports Korean, English, Japanese and Chinese

2) Select the ticket you want

-Select <Destination selection> or <Single journey ticket> or if you travel short distance within 10 Km, choose <Minimum fare only>

3) Select your destination 

-First you need to select the first sound of the station you want to go to. For example, if you want to go to 'Dongdaemun' station, select 'D' and find 'Dongdaemun' station on the list, and select 'Dongdaemun'

4) Select the number of the ticket you want to buy

5) After check the fare on the screen and put money into the machine.

-When you buy the <Minimum fare only> and <Single journey ticket>, you'll be charged subway fare plus the deposit for your card ticket (500 won). You can refund your deposit after you get out of the subway platform whenever you want, if you use the deposit refund machine.

6) If you put money into the machine, the ticket will be issued right away.

7) Get the card and exchange.

(Cation: You can't recharge your single journey ticket, so you need to buy tickets every time you use the subway unless you use the T-money or M-pass card-which is for foreigners.)

3. When you get into the platform

-Like the video below, just put your card on the machine and check the sound 'beep' and the balance of your card and just pass the machine.

(Caution: There's no insert hall for your card. Just put your card on the machine.)

4. When you get out of the platform

-Like the video below, just put your card on the machine and check the sound 'beep' and the balance of your card and just pass the machine.

(Caution: Don't forget to refund your card deposit!)
